SKI Amade – by car from the ski rental, part 2
Today, the second part of the text about the largest ski region in the Austrian Alps. After typically family and crazy Schladming-Dachstein and Salzburger Sportwelt, it’s time for something more sophisticated and exclusive. Three regions, each one different and offering slightly different attractions, each unique and unforgettable. You can reach each one with a comfortable and safe car from PANEK Rent a Car. Check out our promotions, among which you will get the co-driver option for free by the end of February.
Gastein
People who want to enjoy a bit of luxury in addition to skiing on the slopes will feel like in paradise there. The three towns of Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein and Dorfgastein are famous for their unique holiday and spa offer. Here, activity is intertwined with relaxation and rest, as nowhere else. The specificity of the Gastein valley manifests itself primarily in the unique nature, including the breathtaking panorama of the Hohe Tauern Mountains, world-famous thermal springs or the diverse faces of the valleys themselves. You can come there by car from the rental company without any ski equipment, and you will have a great time there anyway. The ski offer is very varied and the highest ski resort in the Ski amadé region is located there, meeting the high expectations of freeriders. This does not mean that families with children will not find easy places to learn and improve their technology in the Gastein Valley. In total, there are over 200 km of slopes at the disposal of skiers, and modern cable cars and lifts take guests to the ski paradise. A unique adventure is guaranteed by the Sportgastein resort, which is located in the National Park and is a winter paradise with only natural snow. Gastein is also an interesting non-skiing offer. It hosts the Sound & Snow Gastein music festival, the Snowboarding World Cup, and the Red Bull Playstreets freeride event every two years.
Hochkonig
Vast, wide and perfectly prepared slopes make this region a magnet for skiers and snowboarders. Hochkonig is definitely one of the best centers for freeriders in Europe. The seemingly unspoiled grounds provide fluffy, shiny and deep snow, which is the dream of anyone who has tried off-track driving at least once. In total, 120 km of ski runs and 33 modern lifts have been prepared here. It is said that there is also the most beautiful ski tour in the Alps. The star of the region is the new Gabühel lift in Dienten, which was opened for the first time in the 2019/20 season, providing skiers with even greater comfort for active recreation. Another highlight of Hochkonig is the Marlies Schild training track, where competitors can practice. There are also three snow parks, of which 850 meters long Kings Park in Mühlbach is one of the longest in Austria.
Grossarltal
The winter ski season begins in Grossarltal in its own unique way. In fact, this is probably the place where even Santa Claus would like to spend his winter holidays, as the cities of Grossarl and Hüttschlag in the pre-Christmas period look like they have been transferred from the most beautiful fairy tale. Here, even the rooster crows differently than anywhere else, shouting its “Skikeriki!”, Urging skiers to welcome the sunrise at the top with two guides and an exclusive group (30 in total) of skiers. After completing the tour at 7:30 am, you will enjoy a wonderful regional breakfast upstairs. In winter, the Grossarltal naturally turns into a skier’s paradise and has its own ski arena Grossarltal-Dorfgastein, which, of course, belongs to the Ski Amadé. However, active winter sports enthusiasts can also go on excursions wearing snowshoes or hiking skis, and then go down to the village along the route that leads along pastures and imposing peaks. The region also offers visitors other attractions, such as floodlit toboggan runs, horse-drawn sleigh rides, cross-country skiing trails and ice climbing. The Ski Amade region attracts tourists from all over the world, including Poland.
